Good morning! It’s Tuesday — AI day. Now that agents are showing up in every standup and design doc, today’s session covers the vocabulary you need to talk about how they’re actually built and controlled, not just what they can do.

📖 Word of the Day: Orchestrate

IPA: /ˈɔːrkɪstreɪt/ Vietnamese: điều phối, tổ chức phối hợp (nhiều thành phần hoạt động cùng nhau)

In music, an orchestra needs a conductor to keep dozens of instruments in sync. In tech, “orchestrate” means the same thing applied to systems — coordinating multiple agents, tools, or services so they work together toward one outcome instead of stepping on each other.

Example sentences:

  1. “We built a small service that orchestrates three specialist agents — one for research, one for writing, one for review.”
  2. “Kubernetes orchestrates containers across your cluster so you don’t have to place them by hand.”
  3. “The orchestration layer decides which agent handles a request and in what order.”

Break orchestrate into three syllables: OR-kuh-strayt, with the stress on the first syllable. Vietnamese speakers often try to stress the middle syllable — practice pulling the stress back to the front.

  • or — like the “or” in “order,” /ɔːr/
  • kuh — a quick, unstressed schwa, /kɪ/
  • strayt — rhymes with “straight,” /streɪt/

Practice sentence (read this out loud 3 times):

Focus on hitting OR-kuh-strayt, TOOL call, and CONTEXT window with clear stress — those are the words a listener needs to catch to follow the sentence.

Vietnamese: kiểm soát chặt chẽ, không cho tự do hành động quá mức

Borrowed from walking a dog — a short leash means the dog can’t wander far. Applied to AI agents, it means giving them limited autonomy and checking their actions closely.

Examples:

  1. “We’re keeping the new agent on a short leash until we trust its tool calls.”
  2. “Early in the rollout, management wanted every agent action kept on a short leash — no autonomous deploys.”
